The Shakespeare Hospice
Serving South Warwickshire and the surrounding areas.
‘Your community hospice, reaching out to families’
We support over 1,000 adults and young people from South Warwickshire and the surrounding areas who access one or more of our specialised services; Day Hospice, Hospice at Home, counselling, pre and post bereavement support for families, young people and children, Transitional Care for 16 – 24-year-olds, support for young carers, and with spiritual, emotional, and complementary therapies.
We are often asked why we don’t have in-patient beds. We made a conscious decision to invest in a robust 24/7 Hospice at Home service because being at home is, for many people, where they want their end of life care to be provided.
The Shakespeare Hospice Services
Our clinical team care for approx. 75% of patients with a cancer diagnosis, other patients have other complex conditions such as chronic heart or lung disease, or neurological conditions such as Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
Our Children’s and Family Support Service supports children and teenagers aged 5 to 18, in making some sense of both illness and loss. Last year, there were 97 new referrals into this service, with a total 700 one to one sessions, up 24% from the previous year.
Our services are free to our patients and their families but are not free to provide. It costs approximately £2.4 million a year to run the Hospice and we receive 11% of our funding from the NHS, so every penny really does matter.
