About The Event
THE GREAT SHAKESPEARE RIDE embraces cyclists of all abilities. Whether you rate yourself as the next Geraint Thomas or have only just taken the stabilisers off your bike, there is a route here to suit you.
The 100 MILE SPORTIVE is a beautiful route, which will certainly challenge you. We may not have the alpine ascents of the Grand Tours, but we do challenge you on a continually undulating route, 5 major climbs and a total ascent which easily matches the infamous Dragon Ride and similar events.
The 100 km CHALLENGE is a picturesque undulating route which is really challenging but achievable, think of it as a small step towards the 100 mile route you’ll no doubt be entering next year!
The FRIENDLY 21 MILE, in celebration of The Shakespeare Hospice’s 21st Anniversary, this is a lovely ride on safe, quiet rural roads is shorter and flatter than our more challenging routes. Coupled with the masses of support we have in place, this is really suitable to those new to cycling and cycling events.
2020 will see us starting at the fantastic four star Walton Hall Hotel & Spa where you will be able to take advantage of the bar area, post ride food and a well deserved massage. Parking is free.
Unique to this event, THE GREAT SHAKESPEARE RIDE will offer everyone the chance to experience the escorted start as seen at the GRAND DEPART of the world famous TOUR DE FRANCE.
Our cyclists that enjoy uploading their rides to Strava can join the Strava challenges including the Lady Elizabeth Hill Challenge on the 100km and 100 mile rides. See the respective Route Pages for more details.
Those who prefer to cycle in the peloton rather than lead from the front might be interested in the return of our TEAM CHALLENGE. Simply find three friends who are entering the same route as you, include your Team Name when you enter our event and you will be in with the chance of becoming our 2020 Great Shakespeare Ride Team Champions!
And finally, The Great Shakespeare Ride is in aid of THE SHAKESPEARE HOSPICE, a charity providing care and support to adults, children, young people and their families. Your entry fee and any sponsorship raised will have an impact on the life of someone affected by a life limiting illness.
Sponsorship forms are available here – please do consider raising money for our charity and we promise it really will make a difference.
We are really looking forward to seeing you on 23rd August 2020, good luck with your training.
